Murrays Q&A And Meta Moment

1.        Somewhere along the way I guess that someone said it is not good or objective writing to put down your own experience.  Murray is saying that a good piece of writing has some of the writers life experience in it. Otherwise it is just opinion or fiction.

5.         Being almost 47 years old, I tend to agree with Murrays ideas on writing.  Once again, I believe that unless I write based on my own experience, I am just copying someone elses research or opinion. Most all the writing I do today has pieces of my life connected to it.

                                                         Meta Moment

One way Murrays claims influence my writing is that he confirms my style of communicating on paper. I write based on life experience. That gives me some confidence that the way I write can not be entirely off track. His ideas also lead me to believe that there are many different, acceptable styles of writing.

  1. I agree with you about using some life experience in writing in turn will create better knowledge about the text. That way the reader can connect with you more having a better understanding of what your talking about. nice work

  2. I don't agree with you when you say that impersonal writing is opinion or fiction. Murray's article made me believe that all writing is personal including opinion and fiction. I think that opinion is extremely personal because everyone has a different opinion.

  3. I think what Murray was trying to say about writing is that, no matter what you write about your writing reflects you and you only, and that whether it be a personal experience or opinion, its more practical. Meaning that opinions are just as important because they are personal to a degree in which you can only describe.

  4. I agree with you on the writing from life experiences and how they are a huge part in our writing so we are used to using words like "I".

  5. I like how Murray justifies the use of "me" and "I" ... i wish more people got this concept!! Nice thoughts. Although i do disagree with the statement that impersonal writing is opinion. Opinion is one of the most personal writing forms there is :)
